Hannah tells a story

Tonight we are sitting down to a lovely dinner, and I am listening to a converstation between the children while I eat. Hannah is in charge of this conversation, as she is most things.

They were drinking chocolate milk from the bottle with a bunny on it. (I'm sure you know what brand. When Hannah announces the following to the boys (Eric, Josh, and Braydon).

"You have to be careful when you drink this milk, because sometimes the bunny pops out of it."

I didn't want to let on yet that I was listening, so I turned away and hid my smile.

The boys, were understandably skeptical, insisting that bunnys didn't hop out of chocolate milk.

"It's true." Hannah insists. "When I stayed at grandma's house a bunny came out of my chocolate milk!"

The boys were impressed with her tale, and started looking in their milk.

I was impressed by the inventiveness, but I couldn't let the lie stand. So I joined the conversation.

"Hannah, are you telling stories?" I asked, hoping she would confess.

"No. It happened."

"Hannah, are you telling the truth?" She nods. I continue, "Hannah, you are saying that when you spent the night at grandma's house a bunny popped up out of your chocolate milk?"

She looks at me like I have two heads. "Yes! It really happened." she insists.

I look away for a moment, to gain my composure, because I am having a hell of a time keeping a straight face by this point. I turn back to Hannah, and continue.

"Hannah. It's not nice to tell lies, even when you are just being silly like that."

Hannah looks at me, and says quietly "I didn't know that."

"So is there anything you need to tell the boys?" I asked.

In the quietest voice she could possibly manage she says. "It didn't."

After the boys all yelling "What?" She said louder "A bunny didn't come out of my chocolate milk!"

The boys didn't really say anything, just went back to blowing bubbles in their own milk.

I love my kids!

I love Hannah!

So I crawled into bed with Hannah, who is four and a half. She likes to ask lots and lots of silly questions until we both end up giggling. This night the following conversation took place.

Hannah: Mommy who made me?
Me: Mommy and Daddy did.
Hannah: Who made Josh?
Me: Mommy and daddy.

This continues for a few minutes about everyone she knows, some of them twice.

Hannah: Mommy? How did you make me?
Me: (panic) Ummm... with love! (Here I crossed my fingers and hoped that was good enough for her)
Hannah: What did you make me with?
Me: What do you mean?
Hannah: What stuff did you make me with? How did you make me? Did you sew me?
Me: (giggling) No I didn't sew you!

I ended up giving her a basic explanation of how sometimes when mommies and daddies love each other a lot a daddy can plant a seed and a baby grows.

Tonight she was questioning me on why I had three babies when some of my friends just had one.

I wasn't sure how to explain that one. I told her that I was got very lucky and grew three babies instead of one.

I think I'm in trouble

As many of you know, I have adorable children, but I feel like I'm going to have the most trouble with Hannah.

Two examples of why.

I was watching a friend's baby today, and Hannah came over to sit on my lap.

Hannah: Mama, we need a baby.

Me: Well, I like babies, but I think we have enough people in our family, baby.

Hannah: We need a baby too though.

Me: Not every family has a baby. I like our family just how it is.

Hannah: But we don't have a baby. Talisha has a baby, his name is Kale, he got lots of presents for his birthday. Mama, when is my birthday? I want presents too!

Me: *sighs in relief at the toddler ADD rescue*

The second example is what worries me.

She walks over to me, with a sad pathetic look on her face. She held up a white My Little Pony doll.

Hannah: Mama, My pony is sad. She doesn't have a friend.

Me: She could be friends with your big pony, Pinkie Pie. (a giant my little pony that sings and dances, and tells stories)

Hannah: No, she wants a pony friend that is short like her, and pink. (brings out the cute irresistible face) Mama, can we go to Wal-Mart and get a friend for my pony, so she isn't sad anymore?

How do you say no to that?! Seriously (or, srsly if you want silly internet talk)!

I have absolutely no clue where she learned to use cuteness to ask for things. LOL I never try to be cute when I want something. Ok so yeah, I totally do that. But she's only 4 and she's better at it than I am. How fair is that?
